Considering God

This morning I wanted to put myself through a little exercise. How many attributes, names, and  characteristics of God could I find in Psalm 65? This Psalm is full of the beauty of our God.

"O God in Zion," v.1 - the supremacy of God
"O you who hear prayer," v. 2 - the knowledge of God
"Blessed is the one you choose and bring near," v.4 - the decrees of God
"the goodness of your house," v.4 - the goodness of God
"the holiness of your temple," v4. - the holiness of God
"By awesome deeds," v.5 - the power of God
"with your righteousness," v.5 - the righteousness of God
"O God of our salvation," v.5 - Savior
"the hope," v.5 - the hope of God
"of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas," v.5 - the vastness of God

And that is just the beginning! Consider doing this exercise today and in the days ahead. Don't allow your eyes to gloss over the words and miss the depth behind the imagery. We serve and have access to a mighty God who loves us so tenderly that he "softens it (our earth) with showers." In the comment section below share a name, an attribute, or characteristic that stands out to you. Meditate on him and his attributes today! May he teach our hearts to worship him.

In Christ alone,
kim

  1. Today I'm awed at God the Provider - v.9: "You visit the earth and water it; you greatly enrich it." and v.11: "You crown the year with your bounty; your wagon tracks overflow with abundance." Ah, to trust him more as my Provider!
